*BACK*.........................SARLAT.........................*BACK*

When describing Sarlat one can easily run out of superlatives. The unprepossesing approach - typical of so many beautiful spots in France - gives no clue to the treasure that is its heart. Almost a thousand years of unaltered architecture with more classified monument historiques than you can shake a stick at! Winding streets, secret alleys, hidden glimpses, concealed courtyards and beautiful buildings. Everywhere there are restaurants, bars, cafès and shops and throughout, a sense of history and vitality.

Sarlat is an hour from Gaytou and should not be missed but, in high summer, it can get very crowded and parking close to the old town can be difficult. Arrive early and you will see it at its very best.
