A Grand Day Out! Nerac is about 2 hours south of Gaytou and well worth the drive. Ample parking by the river and you have the old town to explore, but the highlights are the river itself and the adjacent, beautifully wooded, park. Walk along the river bank; eat and drink at the waterside bars and restaurants; take the boat trip; sit in the sun and admire the views or take a walk in the shaded park - the choice is yours. On the way there, why not take the cross country route and visit Vianne, a pretty Bastide by the river with its walls intact and pleasant streets within; there are shops, restaurants and a glass blower. Come back via Barbaste on the main road or retrace you steps across country and, to finish the day, stop off at Pujols above Villeneuve for a cooling drink and to admire the panoramic views.
